After two decades of struggle from the catastrophic eruption of Mount Pinatubo in 1991, the province of Pampanga and nearby places that surround the areas have simultaneously recovered. They turn this misfortune into grace. A profitable handicraft was created and beneficial to the people. This is the reason why Mr. Sonny Osi had established Excell Frames and Decors, an earth friendly livelihood.

The mud flow ashes is mixed with a binder and resin chemical. Worker will pour it into mouldings and let it dry. Finishing touches also follow.

Excell Frames and Decors is utilizing the Filipino ingenuity and creativity by making Victorian inspired products such as frames, jewelry boxes, religious icons, candle holders and decors made from volcanic ash.

Today, the company is exporting to Europe and some part of western countries. They even garnered prestigious awards like the 25th Arch of Europe Award, 19th International Quality Summit Award, 27th International Platinum Star Awardee f or Quality and CC 100 TQM Compromiso Calidad Cien. This makes them the only Philippine company that have those awards.

The papercuts of Artist Sinag de Leon-Amado

Sinag de Leon contemporizes art of paper cutting

As a child growing up in Marikina, Sinag de Leon thrived in an environment strewn with samples of Philipine folk arts and crafts, her parents being avid aficionados and lecturers on the subject.

She picked up a volume of Childcraft and followed the instructions on how to cut out and form a snowflake out of paper. Snow being alien to her sensibility, she wondered how the intricate designs on pastillas de leche wrappers from Bulacan could be duplicated in her new-found medium.

A vanishing craft in that province, paper cutting has been given a contemporary twist in the series of solo exhibits de Leon has had this year. Her latest solo show “Aninag” at the San Beda Museum in the college campus on Don Manolo Ave., Alabang Hills, Muntinlupa City runs until Oct. 30 with her second free paper cut workshop there on Oct. 23. He is known as a Hyper-realists Artist.He studied in PWU , 1977-81 . among batchmates were hyper-realist Chris Mirang and Carlo Magno. in the mid-80's, worked as illustrator at Kalaro publishing doing a magazine for children under editor Lorna Kalaw Tirol. After a short stint as a seaman in singapore, went back to work as an artist at Adformatrix Agency, and then at FCB Intl. in 1993, worked as art director for a Saudi Arabian Advtg firm, and was active with Pinta Pilipino Art Group.
