Gourmet Tuyo

It was in 1984, when Ma. Elena “Lelen” Tabora first marketed bottled tuyo (herring fish) fillets through Kalipayan Products. She was considered as the inventor of this famous "Gourmet Tuyo". Some have imitated this but the credit remains to Ms. Tabora who hailed from Bacolod City in the province of Negros Occidental .

After the transformation of the common breakfast food of an ordinary Filipino family, today it is now being serve on the tables of various five star hotels and restaurants as an ingredients on pasta recipes and salads.

A genuine Gourmet Tuyo can be distinguish through this characteristics: it is soak in a corn oil and seasoned with garlic and vinegar to get the aromatic salty-sour taste. Fillet herring should be neatly deboned, scaled, and arranged carefully.
